Oscar Nominee Banned From Entering U.S. to Attend Ceremony

Oscar-nominated Iranian director Asghar Farhadi has been banned from entering the U.S. as part of President Trump’s refugee ban, meaning he will miss the ceremony in February. Farhadi’s “The Salesman,” an intimate portrayal of one couple’s struggles following a home invasion, has been nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. Farhadi previously won an Oscar for his film “A Separation” in 2012. The National Iranian American Council’s Trita Parsi took to Twitter to confirm that Farhadi “won’t be let into the U.S. to attend” the Oscar’s ceremony next month. He will miss the event due to Trump’s “extreme vetting” of terrorists, which bans citizens from seven Muslim countries for 90 days as part of an executive order.
