House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes claims he visited the White House grounds the night before he publicly revealed that there was “incidental” surveillance of individuals connected to President Donald Trump. Nunes told CNN that nobody else at the White House knew he was there. In a statement, the committee’s communications director said Nunes “met with his source at the White House grounds in order to have proximity to a secure location where he could view the information provided by the source.” Last week, The Daily Beast reported that Nunes mysteriously left an Uber cab and went to an undisclosed location the night before he made the revelation, keeping even his own staff in the dark about his whereabouts. He told CNN that it has “nothing to do with Russia.” The episode followed an unsubstantiated claim by Trump that former President Barack Obama had Trump Tower wiretapped. Nunes has been under fire over the integrity of the investigation. He briefed Trump on the “incidental” surveillance immediately after announcing it to the press.
