Cheryl Hines was front and center to support her husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at his confirmation hearing to head the Department of Health and Human Services. The Democrat and Donald Trump critic sat behind her husband as he testified before the Senate Finance Committee Wednesday. Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly was also seated prominently in the audience near Hines. Kennedy started his opening statement by thanking Hines, his daughter, Kit, and his son, Bobby, the two out of his six children who attended the hearing. He also thanked his extended family, despite the criticism he’s faced from the Kennedy clan for aligning himself with Trump. Yesterday, his cousin, Caroline Kennedy, wrote a letter to the Senate calling her first cousin a “predator” and urging to not confirm him. Though Hines has largely stayed silent since Kennedy suspended his independent campaign and endorsed Trump, she’s appeared in the spotlight more as the new administration took office. The actress accompanied Kennedy throughout Inauguration Day, and was on the stage during her husband’s “Make America Healthy Again Ball,” where he brought out her favorite singer, Jewel. Despite jokes that the Curb Your Enthusiasm actress was sinking in her chair to avoid being spotted at the confirmation hearing--Hines faced immediate backlash for showing up to support her controversial husband. “Standing by her ‘husband’ is abhorrent as he poses a deadly threat to all Americans and our healthcare system,” one social media user wrote.
