Jason Van Dyke, the Chicago police officer charged with first-degree murder of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, has been hired as a janitor at the Chicago police union’s headquarters, making $12 an hour. A video showing Van Dyke shooting McDonald 16 times in October 2014 spurred protests across Chicago and exposed glaring problems with the city's handling of police abuse. Mayor Rahm Emanuel eventually fired the city's police superintendent in response to the outcry. The Chicago Police Department told ABC 7 it played no role in the union's hiring of Van Dyke.
