Actress Chloë Grace Moretz came out as a “gay woman” in an Instagram post on Friday endorsing and explaining her support of Kamala Harris.

“I voted early and I voted for Kamala Harris,” she wrote, alongside a photo of an “I Voted Early 2024” sticker pasted on her pants.

“There is so much on the line this election. I believe the government has no right over my body as a woman, and that the decisions over my body should come ONLY from myself and my doctor, the caption continued. “Kamala Harris will protect that for us.”

The actress, best known for her roles in Kick-Ass, Carrie, and The Equalizer, also voiced support for legal protections for the LGBTQ community “as a gay woman,” before encouraging her 24 million followers to get out and vote.

Moretz has long been politically active, attending the 2016 Democratic National Convention, with then-boyfriend Brooklyn Beckham, to rally for Hillary Clinton. And, she appeared on the Harris-Walz campaign trail in early October for an event in Georgia.

The star’s advocacy efforts for LGBTQ rights are at the core of her political involvement, having grown up with two gay brothers.

“I grew up fighting on their behalf because it broke my heart to see that yes, they can stand up for themselves, but people wouldn’t listen,” she said in a 2018 interview with the Gay Times, the same year she played a gay teen who was sent to a conversion therapy camp in the film The Miseducation of Cameron Post.

After appearing in an article about straight actors playing gay characters, however, Moretz told a reporter from The Independent “don’t assume anyone’s sexuality.”

While the actress had yet to speak about her sexuality publicly until Friday, she had been romantically linked to model Kate Harrison since 2018. In April, People reported that the couple were seen wearing rings on their left ring fingers, leading to engagement speculation.
