Colorado father Chris Watts, who pled guilty in November to murdering his wife and two young daughters months prior, was sentenced Monday to five life sentences with no chance of parole, according to ABC News. Because he pled guilty to all nine criminal accounts against him, prosecutors agreed that they would not seek the death penalty. During the hearing, Watts was excoriated by members of his slain wife’s family: His visibly shaken father-in-law called him a “heartless monster,” and added that “I trusted you to take care of them, not kill them. And they also trusted you [...] You disgust me.” After murdering his wife and smothering his two daughters Celeste and Bella, authorities say, Watts dumped his children’s bodies in an oil tanker, where they remained submerged for days. “This is perhaps the most inhumane and vicious crime that I have handled out of the thousands of cases,” said judge Marcelo Kopcow.
