Good news for men with erectile dysfunction who don’t like talking to their doctors. Cialis may become available over-the-counter. On Wednesday, drug makers Eli Lilly and French pharmaceutical Sanofi announced a plan in which Sanofi would buy the right to sell Cialis over-the-counter in United States, Europe, Canada, and Australia once certain patents expire. It is far from certain that the Food and Drug Administration would approve the drug for over-the-counter use, especially since it can cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure. However, it could also help Cialis inch ahead of its biggest competition, Viagra. Pfizer dropped its plan to seek over-the-counter approval for the little blue pill in 2008.
