A suburban New York school district said it is taking “appropriate action” against middle-school teachers involved in a classroom collage that included the image of two nooses under the heading “back to school necklaces,” NBC News reported. The Roosevelt School District in Long Island blamed the incident on an “isolated group of teachers” at the school, which has a student body that is almost entirely black or Hispanic. It said that after it learned of the image “an investigation was immediately initiated, and appropriate action taken” but provided no other details. Arthur Mackey Jr., a pastor at Mount Sinai Baptist Church Cathedral in Roosevelt, who shared the photo on Facebook, said anyone involved in the collage should be fired. “For a teacher to do this is a humiliating situation,” Mackey told NBC News.
