Cleveland police have opened an internal investigation into the department’s response to an incident in which former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt can be seen on video shoving and kicking a woman in a hotel hallway. Part of the investigation will be looking into how the National Football League got a copy of the incident report without filing an official public records request, as reported by the Kansas City Star. The NFL stated that it received a copy of the report in February directly from the police department. After looking into the matter, the department responded with a statement saying, “It has been determined that in February 2018 a member of the Cleveland Division of Police provided a copy of the police report involving the February 10, 2018 assault incident... to a representative from the National Football League.” Hunt was cut from the Chiefs after the video was made public late last month. No arrests were made and no charges were filed in the February incident at the Metropolitan at the 9 hotel.
