Stephen Colbert was back on the air last night after missing two shows last week. The satirical news host addressed rumors surrounding his unexplained absence: the FCC had not shut him down; he hadn't angered the pope; and he hadn't stayed home to recover from plastic surgery. As he seemed about to move on, he said, “Oh, one more thing. Evidently having 11 children makes you tough as nails,” adding, “Confidential to a lovely lady.” When Colbert unexpectedly canceled two shows last week, there was speculation that he’d flown home to care for his 91-year-old mother, Lorna Colbert. Colbert is the youngest of 11 kids.
