Colin Firth has signed on to play an investigative reporter in a new film about Amanda Knox, the American college student sentenced to 26 years in Italian prison for murdering her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, while the two were studying abroad in Perugia, Italy. (Knox was convicted with her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, and Knox is currently appealing her sentence.) The movie is based on The Daily Beast's Barbie Latza Nadeau's book Angel Face: The True Story of Student Killer Amanda Knox. Some reports say Firth is writing the script, while Michael Winterbottom will direct. Firth said the movie will focus on the puzzle of the crime. “We are certainly not going to be saying, 'This person is innocent or this person is guilty,’ ” Firth said. “But we will be asking, ‘Is this [a] system of fair justice?’ ”
