Corey Lewandowski Is Pushing a New, Trumpy Political Project

THE BAND IS BACK

Fight Back Now America is asking for money in the former Trump campaign manager’s name. What it’s doing with that cash is a mystery.

Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski appears to be mounting a new political effort that will promote his former boss’s political brand after he leaves office—and help elect “Trump-like” candidates going forward.

The new PAC is called Fight Back Now America and it’s pledging to go to bat for Republican Senators in next month’s Georgia runoff elections, and continue backing Trump-allied candidates in future election cycles. Its website describes the group as “a no holds barred political action committee that will lead the fight to beat back the radical socialists who hate America, while supporting America First Trump candidates committed to advancing the MAGA agenda.” To emphasize the point, viewers are greeted with the image of a boxing ring.

Lewandowksi’s role with the group is not entirely clear. But its website and online donation page feature a photo of him speaking at Trump’s side. The source code for the website’s stock image includes a URL with the phrase “CoreyBackgroundWebsite.” He is one of only two people—and the first of those two—who had tweeted a link to the group’s website as of Thursday morning, calling Fight Back Now America “a great place to donate to help fight the radical left.” And fundraising text messages for the group that have been going out from dozens of phone numbers this month read, “Corey Lewandowski: President Trump taught all of us how to FIGHT BACK. Click here to join our fight!”

Lewandowski did not respond to inquiries about the group or his involvement with it.

Since he ran Trump’s first presidential campaign in 2015, Lewandowski has been one of the president’s most loyal backers and trusted advisers. He’s also profited from his affiliation with the president, writing books and scoring clients for his consulting firm based on his time at Trump’s side.

Fight Back Now America appears to be the vehicle by which Lewandowski will sustain his standing as one of Washington’s foremost Trump defenders even after the president leaves office next month.

The PAC was officially formed in mid-November, and had not reported any income or expenditures as of Nov. 23, the end of its first Federal Election Commission filing period. How it plans to back Republicans Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue in Georgia, and which other candidates it’s considering getting behind, remain unknown.

As he works with Fight Back Now America, Lewandowski is also advising South Dakota Governor Kirsti Noem, a rising star in GOP politics who is considered a contender for the 2024 presidential nomination—a task that would be complicated considerably if Trump decides, as is widely expected, to mount a comeback White House run.

Fight Back Now America also has some notable ties to Republican politics in the crucial swing state of Florida. Registration information and source code on the group’s website indicates involvement by Christian Ziegler, the vice chairman of the Florida Republican Party and a prominent Lewandowski ally. Ziegler also did not respond to inquiries about his work with the PAC.

According to RoboKiller, a service that tracks spam phone calls and text messages, Lewandowski’s fundraising texts for Fight Back Now America have been sent from at least 34 phone numbers, all with Washington, D.C., area codes, over the past month. RoboKiller parent company Teltech is owned by IAC, which also owns The Daily Beast.
