Craigslist scrubbed the personals section from its U.S. site on Friday in reaction to a bill passed by Congress targeting online sex trafficking, according to NPR. The Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, which was approved by the Senate earlier this week, subjects "websites to criminal and civil liability when third parties (users) misuse online personals unlawfully," Craigslist wrote in a statement. "Any tool or service can be misused. We can't take such risk without jeopardizing all our other services,” the statement read. President Donald Trump has not yet signed the bill. The site’s personals section is still accessible to users outside of the U.S. Reddit also announced new policies earlier this week, banning "paid services involving physical sexual contact" and subsequently shutting down its “Escorts” and “SugarDaddy” subreddits.
