Opposition challenger Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic ousted incumbent Ivo Josipovic to become Croatia’s first female president on Sunday. Grabar-Kitarovic eked out a win with 50.5 percent of the vote, while Josipovic trailed with 49.5 percent, with 99 percent of votes counted. Grabar-Kitarovic, 46, is a politically conservative former foreign minister and assistant to NATO’s secretary general. She has vowed to kickstart Croatia’s economy. “I will not let anyone tell me that Croatia will not be prosperous and wealthy,” she said.
