KEEPING IT TOGETHER

It’s been a trying time for everyone, and has only gotten more trying. Daily Beast staffers have some suggestions on how to make the most of your time.

This has been a trying time and no one has all the answers...still. I think that’s part of what makes it so stressful. We’re still all spending more time indoors, and while Zoom trivia with friends used to be fun, I personally can’t stand it anymore. It’s been a difficult time to maintain sanity in (I’m not sure I have—I recently decided to get a puppy) but there are some members of the Daily Beast team who have managed to keep it together. To help you get inspired to make the most of this time, here’s a round-up of the ways the Daily Beast Staff has been coping, from gardening, to painting, and yes of course, there’s a puzzle suggestion thrown in, too.

VIVOSUN Gallon Grow Bags

Moleskin Notebook

I'm still working with arts and crafts, but trying to work with my other creative outlets along with knitting. I just got myself some notebooks and a pack of pens to finally finish my novel. I used to use composition notebooks, but I thought I'd treat myself and get a moleskine. That way I can turn off all devices and limit my distractions during writing time. —Leya Kayas, AdOps Associate

Bottle Cutter Kit

Whereas Geri was all into exercise, she’s been getting crafty. “I’ve been trying to turn my empty wine bottles into cups and vases using this.” —Geri Dembicer, Director, Account Management

Ninge Lint Roller

Instead of doing face masks, Emily is working on keeping a clean space. “This is going to sound so lame, but I’ve become obsessive about cleaning the rug under where I work. Getting the dog fur off it is almost like raking sand. Or it’s how I imagine raking sand makes you feel. I’ve been using this lint scraper, and the amount of fur that comes off is incredibly satisfying.” —Emily Levin, Creative Director, Brand Strategy

Nikon FG

I took up analog photography last year, and with the lockdown I’ve been spending a little more time trying to work on my photography skills. When I go on walks I’ll take pictures of really mundane things like empty streets, signs, and building facades. It’s fun (but a little expensive) to experiment with different light settings and types of film. I have a Nikon FG at the moment. —Charissa Isidro, Associate Social Media Editor

Watercolor Paint Set

At the beginning of the quarantine I started to do more illustrations on my iPad with the Apple Pencil but soon found myself with major screen fatigue as I worked, streamed, and Zoomed through the quarantine. I decided to get back to good ol’ pen and paper, specifically watercolor. As the weather got warmer, it was an activity to do outside with a portable easel that carried all my supplies. —Rebecca Tulis, Product Designer

Palo Santo

I like to light a stick of Palo Santo (“holy wood” in Spanish) to conjure good energy and for its beautiful scent. My neighbor says it smells like a church- in the best possible way, but it reminds me of campfires under starry skies. —Erica Radol, Member Support
