Michelle Wolf, recently named “the future of stand-up comedy” by The Daily Beast, will serve as host for the 2018 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, the group announced on Thursday. The comedian, who wrote for Late Night with Seth Meyers before becoming a contributor to The Daily Show, recently received rave reviews for HBO hour-long special Nice Lady. In a statement, Bloomberg News reporter and president of the correspondents’ association Margaret Talev, praised Wolf”s “truth-to-power style” and “self-made, feminist edge.” In 2017, President Trump decided to skip the event, which was hosted by Wolf’s Daily Show colleague Hasan Minhaj. Samantha Bee hosted her own alternative event on the same night from Washington, D.C. This year, Trump has agreed to attend the Gridiron Club banquet, but has made no indication that he will deliver jokes at the White House Correspondents’ dinner as his predecessors did on an annual basis. —Matt Wilstein
