The Washington, D.C. police department is scrambling to review thousands of cases to determine if a recently discovered flaw in its computer system let key evidence fall through the cracks. A letter from U.S. Attorney Ronald Machen raised the alarm about the Metropolitan Police Department accidentally misplacing evidence in its data-management system, which may have resulted in evidence being withheld from trials. Spokespeople for the department have yet to comment.
