Pop star Demi Lovato took to Twitter on Sunday to release a public statement about her struggles with addiction, weeks after she was reportedly hospitalized for a drug overdose. “I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction,” Lovato wrote. “What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.” As The Daily Beast previously reported, Lovato has always been remarkably candid about her addiction; about a month before her hospitalization, she released a song called “Sober” that detailed the end of her six-year period of sobriety. In her Sunday post, Lovato thanked her fans for their support, adding that “I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.”
