North Carolina’s incumbent Republican Sen. Richard Burr won a tight re-election race on Tuesday evening, making the chances for Democrats to take over the U.S. Senate more unlikely. Burr, a 20-year veteran of the U.S. House and Senate, was in a high-profile toss-up battle with Democratic challenger Deborah Ross, a former state lawmaker. Burr came into national controversy late last month when he was caught, on-tape, privately joking about putting a “bullseye” on Hillary Clinton.
