A Republican memo accusing the FBI and Justice Department of abusing its surveillance powers in the Trump-Russia investigation was made public Friday. The release came over the objections of the bureau’s director and the deputy attorney general to the White House, warning such a move would imperil federal law enforcement by revealing some of how it obtains warrants to spy on suspected agents of foreign powers. The FBI said publicly before the memo was released that it contains “material omissions of fact.” Nevertheless, the White House approved the memo’s release after the House intelligence committee, led by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), voted along party lines Monday to publish it.
