When the Costa Allegra finally reached port in the Seychelles Thursday after being stranded in the Indian Ocean for three days, exhausted travelers told tales of distress on the high seas. Passengers and crew had been prepared to abandon ship in pirate-infested waters before a fire on the ship was brought under control, even lowering some life boats, they said. “It could have been worse than it was,” one passenger told reporters. “We’re here, we’re alive.” The cruise ship was without power and without cooking supplies since the fire knocked out power on Monday, and was towed back to port by a French fishing vessel.
