One thing you almost always need to wear when you’re out of the house is socks. And sometimes putting on the same-old black or gray or white foot gloves can get … boring — this is especially true when it comes to fitness socks.
Athletic Sock Sets at Happy Socks: When Happy Socks sent me a few pairs of their athletic sets, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they held my feet firmly, provided me the support I needed through a run or lift, and they looked very, very different than anything anyone else in the gym — and the way to it — was wearing. The athletic Flash socks are a nice combination of traditional grayness with a few loud lightning strikes in yellow thrown in — not to mention they’re 30% off right now. Or take a look at the Smiley Heart socks, which look exactly like how they sound. The sock pulled up all the way to my knee and I felt the quality. Tall socks aren’t normally really my thing unless I’m wearing them at home — mostly because my calves prefer the freedom to breathe.
So Happy Socks indulged me with a few lower-cut pairs like the Confetti set and the Blocked set from their athletic department. And I really liked wearing them. Are they hardcore, tech-infused, sweat-all-day-and-they-can-take-it socks? No. But they’re fun, they get the job done, and sometimes those two things are enough to allow yourself to get some color into your life. Virtually every pair of athletic socks costs less than $20, too, so if you’re looking to spruce up your sock drawer, a pair of these can go a long way and might not hurt your savings too much. Of course, Happy Socks isn’t the only brand selling loud and fun socks. Here a few more notable favorites.

Bombas Men's Solids Ankle Socks, $12 at Bombas: With features like a performance footbed and a Y-stitched heel, I really enjoy the simple low-cut design of the Men’s Solids Ankle socks, and the 13 color options you get for each pair. My favorites are electric blue and saffron.
Cotton Blend Dress Socks, $15 at Bonobos: There are lots of varieties — I was drawn most to Pineapple Party and Triangle Geo.
Lifestyle No Show 6-Pack, $18 at New Balance: I love their shoes and the $18 price point for six pairs of their no show socks. No choices to make here but the six-pack includes orange, black, light blue, dark blue, lime green, and gray socks.
Alpine Swiss Men's Cotton Dress Socks, 6-Pack, $10 on Amazon: Colorful but simple, these Alpine Swiss socks are Amazon’s choice and should be the choice for anyone looking for a theme in their colorful sock drawer.
HSELL Men's Colorful Argyle Dress Socks, $12 on Amazon: Highly-rated and affordable, these diagonal and colorful designs are an easy entry point to louder socks.
Cartoon Cotton Dog Crew Socks, $13 on Amazon: With high ratings and animal cartoons whose ears are actually sewn into the sock, I had to get this on the list because when shorts and skirts become an option, these should, too.
