During an appearance with Bret Baier on Fox News Tuesday night, DNC Chairman Tom Perez expressed an openness to having the conservative cable network host one of the Democratic primary debates leading up to the 2020 election. “Absolutely we’re having discussions with Fox and others,” Perez told Baier, who responded that he was “happy to hear that.” Fox News did not host any Democratic primary debates in either the 2008 or 2016 cycles. In May 2016, Fox invited Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders to participate in a final debate before the June 7 primary in California, but Clinton’s campaign declined the invitation. Currently, the DNC has said it plans to hold 12 primary debates over the course of the next year and a half.
