DOJ: Michael Cohen Is ‘Under Criminal Investigation’

Federal prosecutors said Friday in a court filing that President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen, is “under criminal investigation.” The filing states that authorities believed Cohen’s “residence, hotel room, office, safety deposit box, and electronic devices...contained evidence, fruits, and instrumentalities” of criminal conduct. The document, filed by the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan, also states that their investigation “largely centers on [Cohen’s] personal business dealings.” Prosecutors cast doubt on the notion that Cohen’s communications with Trump “would be protected by attorney-client privilege,” because Trump has “publicly denied knowing that Cohen paid Clifford[.]”
