‘Don Quixote’ Author’s Remains Located

NOT IN LA MANCHA

Cervantes’ tomb identified.

Forensic scientists in Spain say they have found the tomb of Miguel Cervantes and are in possession of his remains, nearly 400 years after his death. Historians knew the beloved Don Quixote author was buried at Madrid’s Convent of the Barefoot Trinitarians, but his remains were lost when the convent was rebuilt. In January, a tomb was located with “MC” carved into it. “The remains are in a bad state of conservation and do not allow us to do an individual identification of Miguel de Cervantes,” forensic scientist Almudena Garcia Rubio told the BBC. “But we are sure what the historical sources say is the burial of Miguel de Cervantes and the other people buried with him is what we have found.”
