In the first trip of its kind, a driverless Audi SQ5 made by Delphi drove 3,400 miles from San Francisco to New York. The car drove through 15 cities on its nine-day trip, with a human driver intervening just 1 percent of the time, according to Delphi. Radar and other technologies allow the vehicle to make human-like decisions about safety and navigation. Delphi intends to sell these technologies to automakers interested in creating their own driverless cars, such as Google and Tesla.
