The Duke Blue Devils, employing a vastly improved defense and one of the best backcourts in the country, defeated Wisconsin, 68-63 on Monday to win their fifth NCAA basketball title in school history. It was Duke’s first championship since 2010 and its fifth under Coach Mike Krzyzewski. Only UCLA’s John Wooden won more titles as head coach. Freshman guard Tyus Jones led the Blue Devils (35-4) with 23 points, and fellow freshman guard Grayson Allen added an improbable 16 points to help Duke overcome a quiet night from star center Jahlil Okafor. Duke entered as slight underdogs.
