Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte apologized on Sunday to the Jewish community for his references to Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust when describing his crackdown on drug dealers. “I would like to make it now, here and now, that there was never an intention on my part to derogate the memory of the six million Jews murdered,” Duterte said. “The reference to me was, I was supposedly Hitler, who killed many people.” Duterte has allegedly ordered the killings of more than 3,000 people as part of his crackdown on drug use. In his original reference to the Holocaust, Duterte said: “Hitler massacred 3 million Jews. ... There are 3 million drug addicts. There are. I’d be happy to slaughter them.”
