Elon Musk has promised to unveil the first stretch of his company's rapid-transit tunnel under Los Angeles in December. “The first tunnel is almost done,” he tweeted Sunday night. “Opens Dec 10.” The system in the southern suburb of Hawthorne will reportedly transport people through the tunnel at up to 150 miles per hour. Commuters will travel on an electric-powered platform called a “skate” which can carry between eight and 16 passengers or a car that has been driven onto it. The project is being handled by Musk's Boring Company. He later tweeted some detail about what will happen on the first day, saying: “Opening event that night and free rides for the public next day.”
