Elon Musk’s AI Grok Got It Wrong on Election, Say Secretaries of State

With concern growing over the spread of fake news online, five secretaries of state have sent an open letter asking the mogul to fix his AI search assistant on X.
In the 1961 science fiction novel Stranger in a Strange Land, Robert Heinlein came up with the word Grok as part of an alien language, and it seems five U.S. secretaries of state would like to eject X’s AI chatbot, also called Grok, to the far reaches of outer space. Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon, along with Al Schmidt of Pennsylvania, Steve Hobbs of Washington, Jocelyn Benson of Michigan, and Maggie Toulouse Oliver of New Mexico, wrote to X owner Elon Musk asking him to “immediately implement” changes to the artificial intelligence search assistant to ensure voters get correct election information. Their letter came after Grok shared false information with voters suggesting Kamala Harris had timed out on her eligibility to appear on election ballots in nine states after Joe Biden’s exit from the race. “False information on ballot deadlines produced by Grok was shared on multiple social media platforms,” the secretaries wrote, according to The Washington Post. No news on whether Musk booked a seat for Grok on his next SpaceX flight.
