An aide to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt says she was asked to inquire whether Pruitt could purchase a used mattress from the Trump International Hotel, The Washington Post reports. Millan Hupp, who has worked under Pruitt for years, contacted the hotel in Washington, D.C., by phone and asked how much it would cost for the administrator to buy an old “Trump Home Luxury Plush Euro Pillow Top.” Hupp also told the House Oversight Committee in testimony on May 18 that Pruitt had personally spoken to someone at the hotel about the mattress and “had expressed interest in securing a matter[.]” She was also reportedly tasked with looking for apartments for Pruitt and arranging a trip to the Rose Bowl for him and his family. The newspaper reports the hotel does not appear to sell used mattresses under normal circumstances. The ones in the hotel are by Tempur-Sealy and run more than $1,000 each. President Donald Trump tweeted in 2012 that his name-branded mattresses from Serta are “setting records—they are really phenomenal.”
