CNN announced on Friday that it has hired former CNBC anchor Erin Burnett and is planning a new show for her that would debut sometime during the summer. Burnett, 34, who had been rumored as a potential candidate for one of the host chairs on NBC’s Today Show, expressed a desire to break away from covering just business news. “I had a lot of opportunities that made me realize, ‘Hey, I like doing more than markets,’” Burnett told The New York Times. Burnett was one of the most prominent weekday anchors on CNBC, and along with her new show at CNN, Burnett will serve as the channel’s chief business and economics correspondent.
