A former landscaper in Canada pleaded guilty Tuesday to murdering eight people with ties to the Gay Village district in Toronto, the Associated Press reports. Bruce McArthur, 67, was accused of sexually assaulting and forcibly confining some of his victims. Authorities discovered seven of the men buried last year on property where McArthur had worked; an eighth man was discovered in a nearby ravine. The Associated Press notes that many of McArthur’s victims lived on the margins of society—but that the murders garnered additional police attention after the disappearance of prominent LGBTQ rights activist Andrew Kinsman. McArthur’s sentencing will begin on Feb. 4.
