Maybe they should have seen the backlash coming. The Federal Aviation Administration announced Friday it will delay the closure of 149 air traffic control towers that were set to close this Saturday. The decision is a reaction to numerous airports filing suit to block the shutdowns. The capitulation, however, is only temporary. Airports will be given an undisclosed time to decide how or whether they will continue to run the towers on their own. The FAA says cutting funding of the towers was necessary for the budget sequester, and will save the federal government $637 billion in the budget.
