Facebook has reportedly pledged to review its policy on white nationalism and white separatism following a civil-rights backlash against its current policy of allowing some forms of it on the platform. Vice’s Motherboard previously reported that moderators allow some forms of white nationalism and white separatism because they are not “always associated with racism.” However, the Stop Hate Project, a civil-rights group, wrote to Facebook informing it that its belief was misguided. In a letter, the group said: “By attempting to distinguish white supremacy from white nationalism and white separatism, Facebook ignores centuries of history, legal precedent, and expert scholarship that all establish that white nationalism and white separatism are white supremacy.” On Wednesday, Facebook told Motherboard it had received the committee’s letter and it was reviewing the specific policy.
