Fans of Saturday Night Live are outraged that controversial comedian Dave Chappelle has been named as the first host of its latest season. The episode is set to air Jan. 18, with Chappelle at the helm, and rapper Glorilla as the musical guest. But many have questioned why the embattled comedian has continued to be invited back on the show despite his controversial takes on the transgender community. The last time Chappelle took to the SNL stage was in 2022. Fans expressed their distaste on social media. “Consistently giving Dave Chappelle a platform while he spews transphobic rhetoric is shameful,” one X user wrote. “This is the third time you’ve brought him on after he heel turned to this kind of material. Do better.” “The Dave Chappelle hill on which SNL dies is so tragic,” another X user posted. “Nothing makes me want to watch that show less than them endorsing and platforming such a hateful, disgusting person.”
