Fashion’s Night Out (or “FNO” in chic shorthand) is off and running after a blowout fashion show Tuesday night at Lincoln Center, and the main event is still to come. Friday evening, stores around the country will open their doors and crank up the gimmicks—model Karen Elson performing songs from her album at Balenciaga; a poker tournament at Valentino; free totes at J.Crew—while big spenders and window-shoppers peruse the goods and enjoy the spectacle. Tommy Turns 25

Tommy Hilfiger celebrates his 25th anniversary as a fashion megalith this year, and the festivities are befitting for a $3 billion brand: on Friday night, a public concert at Herald Square with Train (the band memorable for putting “Meet Virginia” in America’s head in 1999), followed by a “tailgate” parade up Fifth Avenue to rendezvous with starlet Amber Heard at his flagship store. And he is a designer, so he must have a show: Sunday evening his collection debuts at Lincoln Center, replete in plaids and Americana, followed by a party at the Metropolitan Opera where The Strokes will perform.

The receptionist became a budding designer, whipping up creations for her aunt, and eventually left the family nest to head up Steven Alan’s womenswear. Last year, Whitney Pozgay, that erstwhile receptionist, launched Whit, her own line, which looks exactly like what you would want from a young woman who cut her teeth in prep, matured in urban-hip, and moved to Brooklyn. Which is to say: very cool. Her second collection, sold at Barneys, Bird, and Steven Alan, is all clean lines, separates, and modern femininity.
