Fashion’s Night Out, the global shopping extravaganza, will take place this year on September 10. But unlike last year, it will now be the focus of a TV special on CBS. The network announced Tuesday that it will air “a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the world’s largest fashion celebration” on September 15, which will give an inside look at the festivities. Last year’s event featured Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen as bartenders, and a sing-a-long with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Barbara Walters, and Oscar de la Renta. New York serves as the focal point of the event, but Brazil, Bombay, and a host of international hotspots will join in the fun. The annual party was launched last year by Vogue, the CFDA, and NYC & Company as a means of combating the global economic downturn. CBS executive producer Susan Zirinsky said of the night, “The message is clear: Responsible spending can breathe new life into the economy, and that means jobs.” She added that “Fashion’s Night Out is a self-styled stimulus package by the fashion industry that has ignited a global movement.”
