The FBI received a call to its tip line about Nikolas Cruz warning that he would “explode” and “get into a school and just shoot the place up” on January 5, according to transcript obtained by the Wall Street Journal. The woman caller, who was not identified, told the FBI, “You know, it’s just so much. I know he’s—he’s going to explode.” She continued, saying that she wanted to let someone know and have a “clear conscience if he takes off and, and just starts shooting places up.” She also told the operator that Cruz had a mental capacity of a 12-14 year old, and was concerned about his social media posts claiming that he wanted to kill himself, harm animals, and kill other people. She described one incident where he cut up a live bird on the kitchen counter, where he said he wanted to “see what’s inside.” Cruz was due to receive $25,000 a year from a life insurance policy, and she feared he would “spend it on guns.” She told the operator that she had notified local police of her concerns, but was unsure what the status of the investigation was.
