Federal Judge Amit Mehta has banned several high-profile defendants who were involved in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot from entering the District of Columbia “as a condition of their release from prison,” Al Jazeera reports. The defendants will need court permission to enter the nation’s capital in the future. The decision applies to former leader of the far-right Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes, and seven others who participated in the events on Jan. 6. All of the defendants involved in the decision had their sentences commuted by President Donald Trump, and were not pardoned. The judge’s decision comes after Rhodes visited the Capitol on Wednesday and visited at least one lawmaker. He announced to reporters, “I’m only guilty of opposing those who are destroying the country. We stood up for our country because we knew the election was stolen. Biden did not get 81 million votes.”
