A hacker targeted at least 75 U.S. colleges, stealing sensitive student data, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara announced Wednesday. 29-year-old Jonathan Powell of Phoenix, Arizona allegedly breached multiple colleges' computer networks and accessing student email logs. Once Powell accessed the student data, he allegedly stole personal information and searched for embarassing content. He allegedly searched students' emails for personal photographs, as well as sexually explicit messages. He has been charged with one count of computer fraud, punishable by up to five years in prison. In a statement, Bharara called the breach a "wakeup call" for universities to take measures against cyber attacks.
