Maybe Jeremy Piven wasn’t faking mercury poisoning after all. A new report by the U.S. Geological Survey and Department of the Interior claims that of 291 streams sampled throughout the country, fish from every single one are contaminated with mercury. “This study shows just how widespread mercury pollution has become in our air, watersheds, and many of our fish in freshwater streams,” said Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. The report goes on to say that about a quarter of all fish contain mercury at levels exceeding the criterion for the protection of people who consume average amounts of fish, and over two-thirds of the fish exceed the U.S. EPA level of concern for fish-eating mammals.
