Victor Cha, the rumored former frontrunner to serve as President Trump’s ambassador to South Korea, has come out publicly against the president over his stance on North Korea. In an op-ed in The Washington Post, Cha wrote that “the answer is not, as some Trump administration officials have suggested, a preventive military strike.” Cha went on to describe how a preemptive show of force by the administration would escalate “into a war that would likely kill tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of Americans” and “that could start a nuclear war.” He described how he shared these views with the White House when he “was under consideration for a position in this administration.” This comes after reports emerged that Cha was no longer in the running for the position due to policy disagreements.
