Kitti Jones, a former DJ for a popular Dallas radio station who gave up her career to be with R. Kelly, says she was subjected to physical and sexual abuse during her two years with the singer. In an interview with Rolling Stone published Monday, Jones said she finally decided to open up about the relationship because “staying silent absolutely protects your abuser.” After starting a relationship with R. Kelly in 2011, Jones said she was beaten, starved, and forced to have sex with other women while living in the singer’s cult-like world. She said he had absolute control of her, ordering her to address him as “Daddy,” avoid making eye contact with other men, and wear baggy sweatpants to leave the house. “You can’t say no because you’re going to get punished,” she told Rolling Stone. She said she finally left after the alleged abuse made her contemplate ending her own life, and she now hopes her story will encourage other women to speak up. Kelly, who has been accused of similar behavior by numerous women, has denied Jones’ allegations.
