Four Key Deputies in NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ Administration Resign
CALLING IT QUITS
The resignations further destabilize Adams’s administration following the controversial dismissal by President Trump’s Department of Justice of corruption charges filed against the mayor.
Four deputy mayors in New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ administration each submitted their resignations on Monday, CNN reports. Adams met with at least three of the senior aides over Zoom in an unsuccessful attempt to stop them from quitting, according to two sources. Among the departures are Maria Torres-Springer, first deputy mayor; Anne Williams-Isom, deputy mayor for health and human services; Meera Joshi, deputy mayor for operations; and Chauncey Parker, deputy mayor for public safety. The mayor’s office called them “extraordinary public servants who have been vital to our work reshaping New York City.” Adams added in the statement: “I am disappointed to see them go, but given the current challenges, I understand their decision and wish them nothing but success in the future. But let me be crystal clear: New York City will keep moving forward, just as it does every day.” The resignations follow a Department of Justice memo ordering federal prosecutors in New York to drop corruption charges against Mayor Adams; the dropped charges, meanwhile, come as Adams has agreed to assist Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, with the Trump administration’s reported plans for the mass detention and deportation of migrants in NYC.
