Four people have been killed and one person is in the hospital after a shooting in north Georgia late Thursday. The Polk County Standard Journal reported that two shootings occurred about three blocks apart, according to a Rockmart Police Department official. Two bodies were found at the scene of one shooting at a house in an alleyway between West Church Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Street, the Journal reports. The second pair of bodies were recovered at the scene of the other shooting. Officials have confirmed that two men and two women were killed. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said three of their regional offices were responding to an incident in Rockmart “involving multiple fatalities” in a Thursday night tweet. Authorities initially reported six people had been shot but later said one was an uninjured relative of the surviving victim. Police believe the gunman targeted the victims but don't yet know why.
