Fox News has banned a guest who said that torture “worked” on Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), a spokesperson for the cable news channel told Mediaite. Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney made the comment while discussing McCain’s rejection of President Donald Trump’s nominee for CIA director, Gina Haspel, who has supported torture. “The fact is, is John McCain—it worked on John. That’s why they call him ‘Songbird John,’’’ McInerney said Thursday during a Fox Business hit. “The fact is those methods can work, and they are effective, as former Vice President Cheney said,” he continued. “And if we have to use them to save a million American lives, we will do whatever we have to.” The show’s host, John Payne, said he didn’t object to McInerney’s comments because he couldn’t hear them while a producer was talking in his ear. Payne says he apologized to the the McCain family.
