France beat Croatia 4-2 on Sunday to claim their second World Cup title in a David vs. Goliath finale that was briefly disrupted when members of Pussy Riot stormed the pitch. Croatia, in its first World Cup final ever, matched French through the first half of the match. But France regained the lead with goals from Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe and coasted to victory. In both of of its championship runs, France has had to go through the much smaller Croatia in the final stages of the World Cup, the semi-finals in 1998 and the finals this time around. Fans were briefly left baffled in the second half, when four people apparently dressed in police garb invaded the pitch. After security officials dragged the demonstrators off the field, Pussy Riot took responsibility for the stunt and said it was meant to protest various forms of corruption in Russian law enforcement.
