The wife of a Fox Lake, Illinois police officer who killed himself last year has been indicted by a grand jury for embezzlement-related crimes. According to investigators, Lt. Charles “G.I. Joe” Gliniewicz “carefully staged” his September 2015 suicide—blaming it on “two male white, one male black”—to cover up his laundering of funds from the police department, among other activities. That scam ran all the way to his spouse, apparently, as a Lake County grand jury opted to indict Melodie Gliniewicz on four counts of disbursing charitable funds without authority for personal benefit or use, and two counts of money laundering. If found guilty, she faces three to seven years in prison.
