The winning numbers for the Mega Millions jackpot were pulled Friday, with one lucky ticket sold in Illinois and set to claim $1.28 billion, according to megamillions.com. The lucky numbers were 13, 36, 45, 57, 67, and the Mega Ball was 14. The lucky ticket holder has the option to receive the $1.28 billion over the course of 29 years, or opt for a lump sum of $747.2 million , which ends up being $457.5 million after taxes. The grand prize topped $1 billion earlier this week for only the third time in 20 years, and by Friday night, the Mega Millions site was down to due to the “high volume” of traffic. The odds of winning the jackpot were 1 in 302.5 million. The New York Post reports that a second place ticket was sold at New Way Deli & Lottery Corp. in the Bronx, New York City, with that winner collecting $1,000,002. The massive prize has slowly built since the lottery jackpot was last hit on April 15, with 29 drawings without a winner since. The next Mega Millions jackpot has now reset to $200 million for next week.
